What should I do if there is vibration during the processing of the grinding machine?
May 19,2020
When processing precision grinding tools, the machine tool must not have any vibrations, otherwise it will inevitably affect the product's accuracy. So what should we do if we find that the machine tool vibrates while using a surface grinder for precision processing? Let's analyze the possible causes.
First, it is the processing environment. It is impossible to place machines with significant vibrations, such as punch presses and lathes, near the same working area of a precision surface grinder, as it can easily cause resonance. How to determine if there is resonance? Stop the grinder and start the punch press or lathe. If you touch the grinder and feel vibrations or numbness, it means it has been affected. Therefore, they must be placed in separate workshops.
Second, check the ground. If the leveling screws of the machine tool are not adjusted properly, it can cause resonance. Sometimes the flatness of the processing site is not very good, so it is necessary to adjust the leveling screws to achieve a flat height for the machine tool. By tightening the leveling screws, ensure that all leveling screws are in close contact with the ground.
Third, if the vibrations still persist after the above actions, check if it is due to the ground being too hollow. If the ground is terrazzo or laid with solid floor tiles, it is relatively sturdy. However, if it is a cement floor, it may be too hollow and cause resonance. How to handle this situation? You can go to a rubber hardware store and buy a few black rubber pads, about 6-10 mm thick, and slightly larger than the size of the leveling pads. Loosen the leveling screws and place the rubber pads under the leveling pads to achieve significant shock absorption.
Fourth, if the vibrations still have not been eliminated, try changing the grinding wheel. If the flange has not been balanced properly and the balance weights have been installed, then remove the balance weights. If that doesn't work, try a new flange; generally, this will solve the problem.
Fifth, if the series of actions above still cannot eliminate the vibrations, it may be beyond your ability to handle. It could be that the spindle of the grinder has been used for a long time and is vibrating itself, or the bearings or motor inside are damaged. It may also be a problem with the machine's structure and assembly, in which case you need to notify the manufacturer to handle it.
Precision parts processing requires a good environment, as the stability of the machine tool has a direct impact on precision processing. I hope the above analysis helps with the issues encountered while processing precision mechanical parts on the grinder.
